Catahoula Rescue depends on the dedication and talent of volunteers like Sue.

There are a number of ways you can support the work of Catahoula Rescue, Inc. We're always looking for qualified Rescue Representatives, Fosters and Special Volunteers. 
  • RESCUE REPS: The Rescue Reps are responsible for the acceptance of a dog into the program and providing care and placement. Reps enlist the aid of Fosters to care for dogs that are brought into the program. Reps work with Special Volunteers to identify dogs in need, post available dogs in their area to the Internet, screen potential adopters, and transport dogs when necessary. Reps handle the placement, paperwork, and subsequent follow-ups on the dog. Reps maintain good working relations with area shelters and are the primary contact in their area when there is a dog in danger.
  • FOSTERS: Fosters are responsible for caring for dogs accepted into the Catahoula Rescue program. Fosters take the dog into their home and care for it as one of their own. Fosters take note of temperament and work with the dog to prepare for placement in a permanent, loving home. A dog may be in a foster home for as little as a week or for several months. Fosters work with Rescue Reps to give homeless Catahoulas a second chance at becoming valued members of someone's family. FOSTER FORM HERE
  • SPECIAL VOLUNTEER: Special Volunteers are an indispensable part of any rescue organization. They give their time and special talents to assist in rescuing homeless Catahoulas. Opportunities include:
      • Transporting dogs
      • Checking local shelters and pounds for dogs in need of rescue
      • Assisting Rescue Reps with correspondence
      • Advertising available dogs
      • Web site preparation and updating
      • Updating and mailing local referral lists of available dogs
      • Checking local newspapers and yard sales for low-priced crates, doghouses, kennel runs, etc.
      • Public relations to increase awareness of animal overpopulation and the work done by Catahoula Rescue, Inc.
      • Brainstorming to create new fund raising methods, and assisting with traditional fund raising such as grant writing, event planning, and obtaining donations.

All of the medical care our dogs receive is paid for by donations. Every dog accepted into our program is spayed or neutered, and vaccinated for rabies, DHLPP, and bordatella. Catahoula Rescue dogs are wormed, treated for external parasites, and some are microchipped. They are tested for heartworms and treated if necessary. All health problems are treated at Catahoula Rescue's expense.
